Bamboo screening hedge

Potted Bamboo

If you are going to plant bamboo in a pot use a good quality pot which will take the pressure of the root.

If you are going to plant bamboo in a pot use a good quality pot which will take the pressure of the root.

Bamboo is a fantastic plant which sometimes gets a bad reputation  as a very invasive specimen. While this is true to an extent, it is normally due to a lack  of understanding when it comes to an appropriate location and a consideration for it immediate surroundings.

If you are unsure you are probably best to plant in a pot and use as a wind break or screen. As with all potted plants it will need watering and feeding

Open ground Bamboo hedge

Open ground Bamboo hedge

Above is a Bamboo hedge we maintain for a customer on an annual basis.

Note how effective a screen it is even well past the first week of December.

On another point it will survive harsh weather and even with the heavy burden of snow it is content to lie to the ground and bounce back when a welcome taw arrives.

On a windy or even breezy day watch how it dances in harmony and if you really want to make the most of this spectacle up light and watch the shadows bring your garden to life on the dullest of evenings.

Top class security hedge

This Pyracantha is top of my list when it comes to a one stop hedge that will tick all the boxes.

If you are in the market for a perimeter hedge/wall shrub which is an impenetrable barrier due to its branch thorns it's hard to pass this wall shrub with dainty white flowers in summer and masses of colourful berries in late autumn/winter.

A perfect match for your new Pyracantha boundary

Jasminum Nudiflorum

Jasminum Nudiflorum

If you are looking to create something really special why not introduce some winter flowering Jasminum through your pyracantha with its yellow flowers to create interest three seasons out of four.

Not to mention the birds you will entice into your garden to feed on the pyracantha berry on those frosty Irish winter mornings.
